You’ve seen them in the background of Sherlock Holmes films and Halloween costumes. You may have even admired them for their fashion-forward lengths and dramatic flair. Black wigs, or “long black wigs,” are often considered to be a staple in the costume arsenal for many theater performers and cosplayers.
While some use long black wigs in their performance, others – like myself – dress in costume and wish to do so for a period, or U.S., inspired fashion set. Seeing as how the lengths of wigs are often limited, I decided it would be fun to design my own black wig based off of vintage styles. Lengths of wigs can vary, but the ones I’ve seen tend to be anywhere from between 8-10 inches long (16-20 cm).
Some people like to go for long black wigs as everyday wear. You can go for a rock chick look such as the look of these Amy Winehouse wigs. People who have suffered from hair loss may go for a black human hair wig to wear on a daily basis. Others like myself just go for a long black wig as a fashion accessory for the odd night out.
